When my husband lost his job after fourteen years of being with that company, he should have been able to receive unemployment. Instead, he was repeatedly denied unemployment benefits and without a very good reason. After filing one appeal after another, they finally agreed that he was eligible for unemployment but not without further delaying the process by setting up a hearing about 3 or more weeks later. In the meantime, we were denied TANF because they claimed my bi-weekly paycheck made put us over the limit!!! If I had been making $1,000 per week, I could understand. But who in their right mind would possibly think a family of four can survive off a paycheck that's less than $1,000 per week when you have car payments in addition to rent and utilities.
The brain dead feds in charge are the ones that make up these ridiculous rules. The fact that even in other states where millionaires and average citizens can win the lottery and still collect food stamps yet, hard working people who suddenly find themselves out of work with a family to support aren't even eligible for unemployment, food stamps or TANF shows that the feds are completely brain dead!!!
Thanks to being denied unemployment, we fell behind in our car payments. Without a car, we can't very well get to and from the food bank since they enjoy delaying our food stamps. My husband eventually landed a job after spending 3 months out of work but even though his is commission only and he's paid twice a month, they claim we're not eligible for TANF. And with all this in tact, our car could be repossessed any dany now. Without a car, I can't very well go to job interviews!!! I repeat, the government is one big fucking joke!
